General Description
Herzing University is a regionally accredited institution of higher learning and has immediate openings for online faculty positions providing instruction as well as development of courses for our online business programs in areas such as Marketing.
Primary Responsibilities
The Herzing University Faculty Handbook provides specifics regarding faculty members duties and responsibilities. However, they can be summarized briefly as below.
1) Teaching
a) Student Awareness:
i) Interact in a fair and impartial way with students.
ii) Promote and assess student academic achievement.
iii) Counsel students within the norms of society and the regulations of the university .
iv) Motivate students.
b) Instructional:
i) Effectively plan and organize lectures and labs in accordance with the university course outlines.
ii) Present course material in a manner that will interest and motivate students.
iii) Effectively utilize class time.
iv) Prepare and effectively utilize homework.
v) Maintain class discipline.
vi) Encourage student dialogue and analytical thought.
vii) State course objectives at the first class meeting in a course.
viii) Explain the course grading system at the first class meeting in a course.
ix) Promptly return graded student work.
x) Effectively use instructional techniques.
xi) Assist students in assigned lectures and labs.
xii) Satisfy course objectives.
2) Service
a) Administrative:
i) Enforce the university rules as published in the Student Handbook.
ii) Report class attendance in accordance with the university policy and procedure.
iii) Submit grades and records accurately and promptly in accordance with the university grading policy and procedure.
iv) Report any school related problems to the Academic Dean or University President.
b) Professional:
i) Serve on academic committee(s) (e.g., Curriculum Development, Assessment of Student Academic Achievement, etc.) as assigned.
ii) Actively participate in campus and school activities.
iii) Attend meetings and classes on time.
iv) Cooperate with all faculty and staff.
v) Adapt to course assignments and scheduling needs.
vi) Participate when needed in local and university curriculum development activities.
vii) Assist the academic administration with assigned curricular and administrative activities
3) Scholarship
a) Professional and Personal Development in Teaching Discipline:
i) Complete degrees appropriate to the courses taught if neededsee Education and/or Experience Requirements below
ii) Remain current in the teaching discipline through:
(1) Regular interaction with industry professionals through advisory boards, site visits or other structured contact,
(2) Participation in professional associations and societies,
(3) Active reading and study in the teaching discipline,
(4) Participation in professional conferences, preferable as a presenter, and/or,
(5) Completion of professional seminars or continuing education courses in the teaching discipline.
b) Scholarship of Teaching
i) Study the art and science of teaching through reading and/or course work.
ii) Complete professional development activities in accordance with the schools professional development policy and the individual faculty members professional development plan as outlined by the Academic Dean.
iii) Experiment with various teaching methods and share the results with colleagues.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of subject matter of courses taught acquired through academic study or professional experience
- Demonstrated teaching skills
- Ability to speak and write effectively
- Excellent people skills
- Graduate Degree in Marketing, International Business, and/or Entrepreneurship from an accredited graduate program
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with electronic research resources; ability to work independently as well as within a team collaborative role. Ability to assume a supportive role with a focus on student retention
Reporting
The job of faculty members at Herzing University has three dimensions irrespective of whether they are working full-time or part-time. These are: Teaching, Service and Scholarship. Faculty members report to an academic department chair or directly to the academic dean at a campus.
