General Description
The role of the Student Services Specialist position is to provide administrative, academic and life management skills support for the online campus student body resulting in increased student retention.

Primary Responsibilities
Specific duties of the Student Services Specialist may include, but are not limited to, the following;
RETENTION AND ATTENDANCE:
- Contact students about orientation and academic services
- Advise students about academic, attendance and other incoming issues
- Contact students weekly by email and phone for lack of class participation
- Contact students about academic issues from faculty referrals each week
- Send mid-term progress notices to students and follow up with phone calls
- Contact students regarding compliance with final exams policy
- Refer issues that need academic resolution to the Academic Dean
- Advise students about add/drop/withdrawal policy and procedures
- Comply with department student retention standards, metrics and administrative procedures
- Administer and support department procedures for new students, students at risk, and academic probation students
- Document and maintain reports about attendance follow up and incoming student issues
DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT AND ACTIVITIES:
- Work with Academic Dean for developing online student organizations
- Post student information and resources in Herzing University's online platform
- Direct students to appropriate online departments and refer students to outside resources where applicable
- Provide information to students who request disability accommodations in accordance to department procedures and processes
- Coordinate accommodations with instructors for students with documented disabilities
- Submit appropriate documents for program change and withdrawal requests to Registrars office
STUDENT SUPPORT:
- Interact in a fair and impartial way with students and graduates
- Listen to and evaluate student problems and concerns, counseling them within the norm of society and the policies of Herzing University
- Provides students with information about test out exam process for exemption credits
PROFESSIONAL:
- Portray a positive, professional image of and for the College at all times
- Complete professional development activities as established through consultation with the Academic Dean
- Cooperate with all members of the campus management team and staff
OTHER DUTIES:

Requirements
Graduate Degree in social services, counseling or related discipline from an accredited graduate program.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with electronic research resources; ability to work independently as well as within a team collaborative role. Ability to assume a supportive role with a focus on student retention. Strong keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, data entry, and office administration skills. Must be capable of providing leadership and inspiration to students and graduates. Able to work evenings and some weekends when necessary.
Reporting
The Student Services Specialist position reports to the Academic Dean or appointed designee.
Other
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle or touch objects. The employee is required to move freely throughout the office, sit, and reach above shoulders.
