Information for Military Students

You’ve earned your rank serving your country, and now you’re ready to earn your college degree.

Perhaps you’re choosing online for the flexibility to work school around your other commitments. Maybe you’re not interested in sitting in a classroom with younger students who can’t relate to what you’ve seen and where you have been.

Either way, Herzing College Online understands that you have grown during your time in the service, and in recognition of your level of commitment and sacrifice for this country we’ve added some special features specifically for the benefit of our military men and women students.

This page is an information hub relating to everything you need to know about going to college: the admissions process, tuition discount, VA benefits, GI Bills, and everything else we thought you might find helpful regarding your education.

History of Herzing College

Herzing College understands the needs of military students!
Herzing College was founded in 1965 by Mr. Henry Herzing, a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy (Senior Missile Test Officer, White Sands). Beginning as a computer training school, the Herzing College system has grown to include eight campuses in the U.S. and four in Canada plus the Online Campus, which is headquartered along with the Herzing Administrative Offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In addition to Mr. Herzing’s military background, the Chief Academic Officer of the College, Dr. Bill Getter, is a retired Air Force officer. For over a decade, Dr. Getter taught in and managed degree programs for military members online and on military bases throughout the world.

With graduate and undergraduate educational programs in Public Safety, Business, Technology, Health Care and Design, Herzing’s career-focused curricula are designed to give students real-world skills and knowledge so they are ready to begin working in their field of study upon graduation.

Online Education: How It Works

Chances are you’re not able to put your life on hold to attend college. Most of our military students are working full-time, whether on active duty or civilian jobs, and many have families. Our courses are flexible to work around your other obligations—you log in when it’s convenient for you from any computer with internet access.

Students typically take about two classes at a time and spend 8-10 hours per class on school work each week; this includes reading from the textbook, posting to the discussion boards, and completing any written assignments or tests. Students should plan on logging into the virtual classroom at least four different times per week for an online weekly total of approximately three hours.

Flexible & Convenient

Overslept because you were stuck on fire watch?
No problem; you are never required to be online at a specific time at Herzing College Online, which means you never have to worry about missing class. However, this is still college, so it is important to submit your homework by the due dates. Students are typically required to post to the discussion board by mid-week and submit a written assignment or test by the end of the week. (All assignments must be submitted by midnight CST on the scheduled due date.)

Need to leave town for training?
You’ll receive your homework assignments at the beginning of the week so you know what needs to be done before you leave. Be sure to communicate with your instructor whenever you encounter issues that conflict with school.

One-on-one instruction

Herzing College Online classes are kept small to ensure access to your instructors when you need help. Instructors are available by internal message or phone for questions and can provide tutoring via a real-time, interactive web site.
