President’s Outlook

How uncertain are the times in which we live? How certain are you about your future?

I’d hazard a guess that you are as concerned as most Americans are these days. But you have an advantage over most. While most everyone is talking about their present conditions and talking about the future of the economy and their own lives, you are actively doing something about it. You enrolled in school.

Most everyone dreams about a better life. Fewer talk about what it might take to change their lives. Fewer still try to make a change. But to paraphrase a famous philosopher from the 20th century (Yoda), there is no “try” there is only “do” or “do not.” read more »

Taking Care of our Servicemembers

At any university it is paramount that the service quality provided to military students is exemplary at the least. At Herzing University Online, we embrace this spirit with all that we do. One of the most common reasons that Americans enlist in the military is to take advantage of the vast and generous education benefits offered by the military and the Department of Veterans Affairs. From military tuition assistance to the GI Bill, students can utilize many programs to substantially reduce the cost of getting a degree. Any accredited university can offer these programs, but it is in the execution of these processes that sets one school apart from another. In conjunction with this, Herzing offers reduced tuition rates and specialized departments to address the unique needs of our servicemembers. read more »

New Graduate Programs a Hit with Students

Herzing University enrolled its first class of graduate students on January 7. The graduate programs are offered through the Online campus and consist of four degree choices: Master of Business Administration (MBA), MBA-Health Care Management, MBA - Business Management, and MBA - Technology Management. While the standard MBA program can be completed in 12 months, Admissions Advisor Sharonda Simmons noted that many students select an 18-month MBA program that has an industry concentration for extra job security in an uncertain economy.

Forty-six students are currently earning their master’s degree at Herzing. Many popular features of the MBA program make it a natural next step for current students. The Dual Enrollment program allows Herzing undergrads to take two MBA courses in place of two electives during their senior year. Current business or management students may be eligible for exemption of the first MBA business fundamentals course. And Herzing alumni receive a 15% tuition discount on all their master’s-level courses! read more »

Exams are one of the most important events of any student’s college experience - and can also be one of the most stressful. Everyone experiences exam anxiety in different ways, and with midterms approaching we in the Student Services Department would like to provide some tips and strategies to help you be more successful on all of your future exams!

Take a good look at the environment in which you study for your exams. Good study locations are quiet, well lit, and free from distractions. Study during the best times for you; when you are most alert and can eliminate as many outside distractions as possible. The more focused you are, the more information you’ll retain. read more »

What Makes an Academic Transcript Official

Birth certificates, driver licenses, college transcripts. Our lives are filled with official documents from the day we are born. You need your birth certificate to get into elementary school, apply for a driver’s license, and apply for a marriage license among other things. You may have a copy of it, and as long it has that raised seal on it, it is considered official. An official academic transcript is a little different, however.

When a college requests an official academic transcript of a student, there are specific requirements involved in keeping the document official. In order for a transcript to be considered official it must arrive in a sealed envelope sent directly from the issuing college to the college’s Registrar. An official transcript is almost always printed on special security paper noting that the document is official. A photocopy cannot qualify. Some official transcripts include a raised seal however the school may note different requirements on the transcript. Nonetheless, the document should always be signed by the campus Registrar. In the end, it cannot go through the student’s hands and the Registrar must be the one who opens the envelope. There are reasons for these requirements. read more »
