Scholarships - Getting Started

Build Your Profile:

  1. Fill out the Herzing Scholarship Survey. This will provide the University with the tools to help you in your search. Remember the answers that you give on the survey as these will be the personal characteristics that you can use to search for scholarships that fit you as a student.
  2. Join the website FastWeb. FastWeb creates a profile based on your background and sends daily updates about scholarships specific to you. (This is a trusted website for Herzing students.)
  3. Join Herzing’s Scholarship Group on Facebook. By joining the Facebook Scholarship Group you will be updated regularly on internal and external scholarship opportunities.

Locate Scholarships and Tuition Assistance

  1. If employed, ask your Human Resources representative if your company offers Tuition Assistance. Check for scholarships in your employee handbook and through the company website. If you are a dependent student, have your parents complete this step at their place of employment. If you or your spouse is a current or former military member please make the Scholarship Specialist and your Educational Funding Services Advisor aware of your branch, status, rank, and affiliations.
  2. Search the internet using Herzing-approved scholarship websites: schoolsoup, scholarships.com, collegeboard. Remember to search for scholarships using the characteristics that you were asked about in the Herzing Scholarship Survey.

Use Your Resources

  1. Contact organizations that you are involved with locally: churches, local corporations, ethnic organizations, and community or government organizations (Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, etc.). Go to your local library and ask the reference desk for a list of local scholarships. This is a great way to get started in finding local opportunities.
  2. Join a national student organization. Almost all student organizations have scholarships available to their members. By joining a student organization, you will be building your resume and increasing your level of professional development. Perform a simple Google search based on your area of interest and follow up with the Scholarship Specialist with questions.
  3. Use Herzing as a resource. Herzing can help you obtain references, give input on your applications’ required written statements, assist in updating your resume, contact your instructors for nominations, provide feedback on eligibility for specific scholarships, and much more. Contact the Scholarship Specialist with any questions or requests.
  4. Volunteer! Volunteering is a great way to gain references, resume material, and access to scholarships. Many volunteering organizations have scholarships available to individuals who donate their time. (volunteermatch.org, serve.gov)
